Four founding societies initiated EFAR, now rapidly expanding across the continent.

The British, Dutch, German and Nordic societies of aging research signed the federation's founding charter at Hellerup in 2024. EFAR is now rapidly expanding, with members joining from member and associated member states of the European Research Area.

Each founding society contributes its national community of researchers, post-docs and laboratories to the federation. Together they bring together aging-research traditions that date back, in the British case, before the Second World War.

Geography of the federation

The four founding societies are seated in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark. Their members work across more than thirty European countries.
